Biomeridian Health Scan

BioMeridian Health Scan

BioMeridian Wellness and Nutritional Assessment

We are using Biomeridian scans in our office as part of patient assessment. For your individual scan and assessment, please call 760-942-3321 for an appointment.

What is BioMeridian?
The BioMeridian is a technically advanced device that assesses whole body wellness using clinically researched, tested and verified acupuncture meridian points. These points function at a specific frequency when they are optimal, so deviations can be measured and evaluated. We test 58 different points on your body that relate to specific organs and systems. It is safe, non-invasive and painless. It can be used on patients of all ages and does not require any special preparation. The test points are on the hands and feet, and as a result the procedure is very comfortable.

A wellness assessment takes only 30 minutes and produces a color-coded report that can be used to track progress from visit to visit.

Why get a BioMeridian Test?
Considering cost, time, and safety to the body, there is no other test as comprehensive in gauging an individual’s wellness. It is a miraculous tool for saving, restoring and enhancing your health.

The BioMeridian has FDA and CE approval.

What does the nutritional assessment entail?

Do you want to know if you have a nutritional deficiency or food sensitivity? If you are like most people and have a health threatening nutritional deficiency, don’t you want to know exactly how to deal with it?

The nutritional assessment is part of the overall wellness assessment. Using results from the BioMeridian scan, patient history and our extensive knowledge of nutrition, the Doctor will design an individual supplementation program that will restore and maintain optimal health. Your progress will be monitored on a regular basis to make sure we achieve the results you are looking for.

We offer the highest quality nutritional supplements made from pure and quality assured ingredients. Generally our prescriptions for whole food supplements are from Standard Process, and our Nutricuticals are from the best and most researched supplement company in the world, Metagenics.

Allergy and Sensitivity Testing

The short story: If you would like to know what your body is sensitive to call our office for a Biomeridian test at 760-942-3321. For more information, please read further.

What are allergies?
The term ‘allergy’ is incorrectly applied to many conditions.

A true allergy occurs when a substance called an allergen is introduced into the body (inhaled, eaten, through a cut in the skin) and the body’s immune system makes antibodies called IgE. These antibodies activate other immune components to produce histamine. Histamine is designed to destroy everything it touches (unfortunately this includes surrounding tissue). The symptoms of this destruction can range from mild local inflammation to complete systemic shutdown or anaphylaxis.

Your immune system is supposed to make IgE and release histamine when it is fighting bacteria, viruses and other invaders because it is your defense system. But in the case of allergies, this is an over-reaction to a false alarm.

What is sensitivity?
This is a much broader term than the true IgE allergies. It covers reactions that occur in other parts of the immune system as well as other areas of the body (like the digestive system).

Some VERY common sensitivities are:

Asthma
Asthma occurs when the airways become inflamed and swollen thereby restricting airflow causing difficulty breathing, wheezing and coughing. Asthmatics can be affected by a number of things – cold air, exercise, viruses, strong perfumes, sulphites in foods, stress and even emotions.

By avoiding the things that cause their sensitivities and controlling stress, asthmatics can significantly reduce the number of attacks.

Hay fever
The disorders real name is ‘allergic rhinisitis’. It is sensitivity to pollen produced by grasses, weeds and trees. The symptoms are runny and itchy eyes irritated and inflamed airway, sneezing and congestion.

Lactose intolerance
Lactose is a sugar found in most dairy products. The body makes an enzyme called lactase that breaks this sugar down so that it can be absorbed into the body. Some people don’t produce enough enzymes so the lactose ferments in the stomach and causes bloating, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and malnutrition. Lactose intolerance can begin at varying times in life, affecting babies to adults.

Temporary lactose intolerance can also occur after bacterial or viral enteritis (food poisoning) due to damage to the intestinal lining.

Eczema
Eczema is dry, irritated, itchy, inflamed skin that can affect people of any age. People with eczema often get asthma and hay fever too. Not much is know about the cause of eczema but contact with certain soap, detergent, jewelry, cosmetics and sweat can cause an outbreak.

This is just a short list of the most common sensitivities.

Why do some people have sensitivities when others don’t?
Sensitivities are a modern phenomenon and have only been around for the last hundred years or so. Scientists think that there are both genetic and environmental components involved.

It is still unknown as to why some people are more sensitive than others and more is being learned about the subject every day.

Even people with sensitivities can react in different ways:
1. Fixed sensitivities – is when a person reacts EVERY time they are exposed to an allergen, even if they are minute amounts. It also doesn’t matter how long it has been since the last exposure, there will be a reaction every time.
2. Cumulative sensitivities – is when a person only reacts when they have been exposed to an allergen enough to exceed their threshold.
3. Variable sensitivities - is when a person may react one day but not another. Sometimes this can be due to one substance being combined with another substance before it becomes an allergen e.g. a food and pollen or a specific food during pregnancy or the phase of a menstrual cycle.

What types of things can we be sensitive to?
Pretty much anything that we are exposed to!

People can be sensitive to well known allergens, like:
• Pollen, trees and grasses
• Dust or dust mites
• Pet dander
• Insect stings
• Penicillin and other drugs
• Mold
• Peanuts and tree nuts
• Eggs
• Shellfish and seafood
• Dairy
• Wheat products
• soy

But it is also possible to be sensitive to:
• Sulphites and nitrates in food (e.g. cured meat and hot dogs)
• Food coloring
• Heavy metals (e.g. nickel)
• Foods like celery and corn
• Salicylates (found in fruits and used in cosmetic products)

And in very extreme cases people are known to be sensitive to:
• Sunlight
• Water
• Touch

What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of sensitivities can be varied and difficult to pin down. The typical symptoms can mild, moderate or severe. But there are also symptoms that are so general that they mimic other disorders.

Mild (in the local area only)
• Rash
• Itchy and watering eyes
• Nasal congestion
• Local inflammation
Moderate (spreading to other parts of the body)
• Itching
• Difficulty breathing
• Chest pain
Severe (life threatening – anaphylaxis)
• Swelling that makes breathing difficult
• Sudden drop in blood pressure
• Shock
General
• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Flatulence
• Bloating
• Headaches
• Migraine
• Lethargy
• Short term memory loss
• Nausea
• Indigestion / heartburn
• Joint pain
• Muscle pain
• Dermatitis
• Insomnia
• Vertigo / dizziness

How do we test what we are allergic to?
There is still no 100% reliable test for allergies or sensitivities. With no reliable standard of comparison, there is no way that any new test can be reliably judged. People can often be puzzled by skin and RAST tests as sometimes they present with positive reactions when no symptoms exist and negative reactions when symptoms are clearly present.

Studies show that BioMeridian testing is about 78% reliable, which is very high when evaluated against other forms of allergy or sensitivity tests. A RAST test, the gold standard in the medical community for allergy testing, for instance, is judged to be about 74-76% accurate.

Each test has its limitations:

History
• Most patients have a history of reaction after ingesting a meal, but do not know which food caused the specific reaction.
• Many patients ingest foods they are sensitive to (like dairy or wheat) several times a day, and have never deliberately avoided them for long enough to see symptoms clear.
• Many are puzzled when they react to an allergen one day but not the next.

Allergen Rechallenge
• After an allergen has been avoided for some time and then reintroduced, there may be no initial response.
• This may indicated that you have a cumulative or variable sensitivity response.
• The challenge may have to be repeated several times and this can be tedious and tiresome.
• There can be adverse reactions from being exposed to an allergenic substance.

Double-Blind food capsule test
• Although this test may work reasonably well for fixed reactions, it is generally unreliable for food sensitivities.

RAST and related tests
• RAST tests for IgE immune responses
• They work very well for this kind of allergy, but not for any other type of reaction.
• Sensitivities can be very complicated and involve other factors like IgG antibodies, enzymes and digestion reactions.

Skin Testing
• Various types of skin responses have been tested and are reasonably correlated with clinical food response in some tests but not others.
• There are often adverse reactions from being exposed to the allergen.
• Skin tests do not show digestive sensitivities.

The BioMeridian Sensitivity and Allergy test

Along with wellness and nutritional assessments, the BioMeridian can test for sensitivities and allergies. A balanced and healthy meridian point is chosen and then exposed to an allergen and the response is recorded. We have 40,000 different substances in our database to test for sensitivities.

Reliability
• It has been shown to be at least as reliable as other forms of allergy testing (probably more).

Safety
• The test is much safer than skin and challenge tests, since exposure to the allergenic substance is minimal.
• There are no unpleasant adverse reactions.

Cost
• Sensitivity and allergy screening with the BioMeridian is $ 150. and includes a basic BioMeridian nutritional scan.
• Other forms of allergy testing, such as the RAST skin test, are usually $450-$500.
• The basic biomeridian systems test with nutritional recommendations is $75.
• Follow up tests to the biomeridian systems exam are $35. and track your progress.
